| Players safe in Wakefield redundancies
Thursday 17th February 11
The administrators running troubled Engage Super League club Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have dismissed around 30 staff but say no players have been made redundant.
The latest twist in the takeover saga was revealed by administrator Peter O’Hara, who is hoping to finally conclude a deal with prospective new owner Andrew Glover today.
He dismissed one report that head coach John Kear and the players have all been sacked.
“About 30 administration staff were given their notice yesterday,” O’Hara said. “There may be a couple staying on to work in the shop. But none of the playing staff have been dismissed.
“We expect to complete the deal today, as we have been expecting to do for a few days, but we are getting nearer. The other party keep coming back with queries.”
Since the Wildcats entered administration they have lost two players in Sam Obst and Dale Ferguson, but O’Hara insisted he had not done a deal to sell centre Daryl Millard to Catalan Dragons.
The Dragons issued a press release yesterday claiming that they had finalised the transfer of the Fiji international.
Wakefield’s next match is against the Dragons in Perpignan on Saturday and that is not thought to be in any doubt. The club are due to fly out tomorrow.
