I can see it being Walmsley. He is improving steadily and there’s value in that.
I’d still like to see Croft and Cozza signed up. They’ve also improved their game and squad value this season.
In fact I’m happy with only a handful leaving and a handful coming in year on year while adding to the squad every year piece by piece.
Walmsley, Croft, Cozza and one or two more quality additions (probably a prop and maybe a second row) and I think I’d be happy.
In his Yorkshire Post interview, prior to the Tevaga announcement, Ellis stated that we had signed three players but only announced Smoothy... And that dependent on the quota ruling we are likely to see four or five new additions to the squad in total. I certainly think Lachlan, Croft and Cozza have earned the chance... Whether the coaching staff see that as enough to take the team forward??? Only time will tell!
I just glad I don't have to make the decisions...
Oh I agree but you can never have enough quality in the squad. Even if you don’t use it all.
As we see this season we’ve had to use 95% of the squad.
Like you say I don’t envy the coaching team.
Players like Croft, Cozza, Rourke are playing well and players are coming back so there are some difficult choices to make. That said I’m sure the coaches would rather have too much quality to choose from than too little as hard as it may be.
With the loan system being 1 weekly rolling next season supposedly that may open up some respite to get some squad players game time here and there.
I’d expect Tchimambe, Myers and even Lingard all to be spending most of next season as regulars at top championship squads next season so they can progress too.
We should always strive to have as much quality as we can in the squad though.
As for taking the team forward.
Croft is only 24 and has significantly improved this year. I can only see him improving even more and maybe even forcing himself into a regular spot. Hes been fairly regular this year and we are around top 6.
Cozza isn’t much older and he offers good cover and I think being understudy to Pitts and Tevaga could see him become a real quality 13. In fact it wouldn’t surprise me to see him and Tevaga alternate at 13 for parts of next season. He also covers prop and we needed that this year.
Walmsley is about to hit his prime years and he’s a finisher. I think he will be much better for SL after a season and has steadily improved his game.
Like KR I think you need as much quality as possible even if you don’t use it all.
One thing I’m not sure of. Do we have the next batch of quality young players coming through? Is there any promising player ready to promote?
Have any excelled and look like the next big thing?
