As I understand it, he hasn't been released and is certainly employed during the duration of his rehab by Hull FC. You are allowed to maintain the employment of a player, should a club wish to honour his contract, but once he has been de-registered he can't return to playing for the rest of that season. Registration and employment are two different things and he is now just a member of staff on the pay roll. .De-registration and returning of the players wages to the cap allocation is only allowed in the 'Initial" rounds of the comp and then only with the permission of the RFL who 'consider the circumstances' before agreeing to it.
